Our Pack Support team gets a lot of great questions from customers about the Float Coat. Moira’s been at Ruffwear for nearly 10 years, so we floated a few questions by her and her sidekick Jada. Here’s what she had to say.
Question: What improvements were made to the new design?
Moira: The overall design and function of the Float Coat is the same. What we have done is updated the colors, fabric, and look to the exterior to give it a fresh new style. There was also a change to the interior foam that will contour and fit around the dog’s body in a sleeker way. It’s also a PVC-free foam.
Q: Is there a weight limit for each size?
M: There is an average weight range that dogs have based off their girth measurement. It can vary by a few pounds, so we don't post a "weight limit" but rather use the dog's girth measurement to ensure proper sizing. We have a saying here that "if it fits, it floats!"
Q: How do I wash my Float Coat? Â
M: I always make sure to mention rinsing after use to remove salt from seawater or debris from lakes/rivers. For a deeper clean: secure fasteners, wash in cold water/gentle cycle, use mild detergent, hang to dry, do not dry clean, iron or bleach. Avoid drying in direct sunlight.
Q: The Float Coat looks too small or short. Is this the right fit?
M: Our Float Coat is designed to provide free range of motion while kicking and turning in the water. This is why we have a generous scoop around the shoulder area and a tapered cut to the back end. It’s common for the assumption that it’s too short/small however it ends up being more comfortable for the dog to swim in and is optimally buoyant for a dog that would wear that size.
